YouTube Music, leveled up

Loudness normalization and the five-band equalizer, for YouTube Music only.

Audio-only can keep a long YouTube Music session lighter on battery and data. Two supporting controls make that listening more comfortable: loudness normalization smooths out volume changes, and a five-band equalizer shapes the sound for your headphones or speakers.

Even out track volume

Open the full options page and find Music, then switch Loudness normalization on or off. It is on by default. The add-on reads the loudness value YouTube already provides for each track and applies a limited adjustment, so mixed playlists sound more consistent without unbounded volume boosts.

Shape the sound

Turn on Equalizer in the same Music section. Adjust the five bands at 60 Hz, 250 Hz, 1 kHz, 4 kHz, and 12 kHz, each from minus 12 to plus 12 decibels. The sliders begin at zero, which is a flat setting.

Try small changes first:

  • Raise 60 Hz or 250 Hz for more low-end warmth.
  • Adjust 1 kHz to bring the middle forward or soften it.
  • Raise 4 kHz or 12 kHz for more presence and brightness.

These controls are available in the options page, not as separate popup switches. Pause YouTube Audio in the popup temporarily disables the whole add-on. Loudness and EQ apply only on YouTube Music. On regular YouTube, they stay out of the way. If sound processing or track information is unavailable, playback continues unchanged.
