Handoff: M6 Design Polish

Summary

Implemented the shared design system and polished extension-owned surfaces described by SPEC-009 and the design-language research.

Delivered

  • Added a shared dark/light token sheet and reusable Preact controls for switches, rows, sections, branding, status, quick controls, and onboarding.
  • Rebuilt the 320px desktop popup around one global hero, audio-only and background-play quick controls, honest configured-state summaries, and a single route to full settings.
  • Rebuilt options as a responsive, searchable, grouped page with pinned Quick Controls for Firefox Android and progressive disclosure for equalizer and advanced controls.
  • Preserved instant application for every shipped setting and exposed all existing playback, privacy, skipping, distraction, music, download, and aggressive telemetry controls.
  • Added one-time onboarding backed by a separate seenOnboarding local-storage flag.
  • Unified audio-only, segment-status, and download player controls with native ytp-button compatibility, accessible state, active accent, focus treatment, and reduced motion.
  • Added jsdom component tests for popup/options structure, accessibility, filtering, onboarding dismissal, and instant setter wiring.

Validation

  • npm run typecheck: passed.
  • npm run lint: passed with zero warnings/errors.
  • Gate-weakener scan: empty.
  • npm test: 11 files and 86 tests passed; 98.22% statements, 94.81% branches, 97.05% functions, 99.29% lines.
  • npm run test:bench: all 20 cases passed.
  • npm run build: passed.
  • Production content matches remain exactly the four YouTube patterns with no localhost entries.

Notes

jsdom is a development-only dependency for real DOM component tests. The package manager reported existing dependency-audit findings during installation; no production dependency or permission was added by M6.
